Race Report by Statesboro Pacer, Nathan Kile

9/10/05, The Suntrust Hilton Head Sprint Triathlon, Hilton Head, SC

Over this last month I have personally participated in two triathlons. The first race was the fall Suntrust Triathlon on Hilton Head Island, 9/10/05, SC. This race was a short triathlon consisting of a 500 yd swim, 12.4 mi bike, and a 3.1 mi run. Conditions for this event could not have been better as cool temperatures and sunny skies prevailed. This race would be a great event for those speed demons out there, but is also short enough for beginners and has a very relaxed feel to it. There were many first time racers at this event. Statesboro represented well at this event with at least five people from the local area including a couple of my fellow Southern Adventures staff members, Jason West and Matt McBride. We all had a great race, and amazingly, I somehow managed to take 1st place in my 30-34 age group after out sprinting another racer (by 2 seconds!) in the home stretch. I'd highly recommend this race. Another great thing is there is a spring and fall version, so you can compare your times to see if you improved after training all summer.

The next race took place in Oak Ridge, TN, 9/26/05 and was called the Atomic Man. Click here for details.
