Race Report by Statesboro Pacer, Bill Reynolds
12/18/05, Jacksonville Half-Marathon, Jacksonville, FL; hosted by the 1st Place Sports
The [Half Marathon] race began at 7:00 a.m. The night before it rained hard all night long. When I woke up to get to the start it was still pouring rain. At 7a.m. the rain stopped but the wind did not. It was gusting up to about 17 mph coming from the north, which meant you were running into it on the last 3 or 4 miles. The temperature was in the 50s but felt a lot colder because of the damp and wind. The course was flat, but your feet were soaked by the 2nd mile. I think the worst part was the final return mile where you run across a soccer field. The soccer field was drenched and muddy, more bad news for your feet. I did finish, but not in any record time.
Despite all of this, the perks were a dri-fit long sleeve t-shirt and a fairly nice finishers medal. This would probably be a great race in better weather conditions.
[Pacer Jim Hutcheon ran the full marathon]
