11/12/05, Millen Cross Country 4.8 Mile; Race Results

Catherine and I look forward to the Magnolia Springs Cross Country run every year. And as we always do, we started race day this year fussing about what time to leave for the race. I was making the coffee and hollering at Catherine to get out of bed and she was hollering back at me that she had time to sleep 10 more minutes. We finally got the cats fed and the coffee poured and left for Millen 15 minutes behind my schedule. But we got there just in the nick of time or with plenty of time to spare depending on which one of us you ask. As we lined up and finished our prerace hug Joyce Hodges-Hite asked for a masters male volunteer for a team that needed another runner. I volunteered and told one of my new team mates that I was slow but he didn't seem to mind. The Magnolia Springs course is one of the prettiest and most enjoyable courses that either one of us has run. This year the weather was perfect and the leaves provided color throughout the race. Catherine's main goal this year was to not finish last. Not only did she achieve that goal but she also won 2nd in her age group and 3rd in the Masters State Championship Race! And she ran the entire race without any walking. I think she was more proud of that than anything else. And what about my race? Well it seems that my teammates were a couple of hot shots from Atlanta and we won the team competition!! What a great day.
